GPS Drawing

GPS Drawing is the action of using a Global Positioning System receiver as a paintbrush and the Earth as a canvas. I would characterize GPS Drawings in two broad categories based on how much the drawer allows the environment to influence the drawing and to what extent the drawing's final appearance is predetermined by the drawer.

For example, one could walk into a flat, empty field and draw a figure or write a word with the same predetermination as one would on a flat, blank sheet of paper.

At the other extreme, one could follow the cues from his or her environment for a more abstract drawing. This could include outlining a football field or keeping track of one's daily movements about a city.

Below is a time progression that shows my movements during the latter half of 2006:

Scroll further down for a time progression of movements about Columbus during that time.
